Purpose

Child Soldiers Intl. seeks to prevent the military recruitment of children under 18 by non-state armed groups and national armed forces. The organization also helps those who were involved in conflict to return home and live a normal life again.

Mission

Its mission is to have no child recruited for war. To achieve this, Child Soldiers Intl. educates local communities about the dangers of child recruitment and works with state governments and international bodies to bring about sustained political change.

Why

Child Soldiers International is an international human rights organisation working to end the military exploitation of children. It is an authoritative voice on child rights issues and works directly with children and their communities impacted by armed conflict around the world.

Accomplishments

Girls’
Education

Helped 177 girls across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo return to school and reintegrate back into their communities.

Child Soldiers World Index

Launched first global resource of its kind, to help map the military recruitment practices, policies, and laws of all 197 UN member states.

Child Recruitment

Encouraged the prohibition of child recruitment in Chad by educating communities and organizing training workshops.

Current Projects

Reintegration of Returning Girl Soldiers

This project educates local communities about the dangers of child recruitment by holding community meetings and providing practical guides on how to help returning girl soldiers, who account 30-40% of all children recruited in DRC, reintegrate back into their communities.

Building Community Capacity to Prevent Child Recruitment in Central African Republic

Child Soldiers International provides child rights training workshops and additional awareness-raising efforts in local communities, especially where there is an urgent need for outreach activities for families and community leaders. Additionally, technical assistance is provided to the CAR government by delivering training on the practical measures needed to end child soldiering.

Recovery and Reintegration Programs

This project focuses on the research and development of effective methods to put an end to the vicious cycle of child recruitment abuse. Additionally, by developing contextualized guidance to assist child protection actors working in South Sudan, former child soldiers are provided with the necessary tools that help them recover emotionally.

No child should be used in war, yet thousands still are. Ending this heinous practice requires everyone coming together to ensure all children can enjoy the childhood they deserve, and with your support we will move closer to achieving that goal.
